Two weeks.
That’s how long it took for Team Boxing League to make dreams a reality with MSG Networks. Now, in its fourth season, TBL will be shown on a big-time sports network, alongside the rest of New York's sports.
Vinny DiMarco, the chief revenue officer of the league, has a long-time relationship with MSG Networks through his working-days for ESPN — a career that spanned over the last 25 years, predominantly dealing with ESPN Radio.
DiMarco’s role entailed managing ESPN New York, two radio stations, alongside being the home of the NBA’s New York Knicks and the NHL’s New York Rangers.
“I have a long history with the folks at Madison Square Garden,” DiMarco said. “Networks, as well as on the team side with the Knicks and the Rangers. So, that’s where my relationship comes from with them.”
For a huge market as New York, featuring The Mecca of Boxing — Madison Square Garden, TBL is taking a huge step forward toward reaching sports fans.
Yet, there is still more that DiMarco wants to happen.
The ideas continue to circulate.
Sure, he may be optimistic.
But who wouldn’t be?
“Maybe when we get licensed in the state, maybe our first fight is at the Beacon Theatre that holds 2,000 people and is owned by MSG parent companies,” DiMarco said. “And then maybe the next fight after that is at the Theater at Madison Square Garden that holds 8,000 people. And then maybe by MegaBrawl 2028, we can be doing it at The Garden.”
If you’re a fan of TBL, what do you think?
If you’re not a fan of TBL, have you caught any interest yet?
There’s growth. It’s obvious and present. TBL is now at the point where fans can tune in beyond just Youtube and Envoy.
“We’ll be available on the Gotham Sports app, which is, if you open up your Gotham Sports app, you’ll have a choice between Team Boxing League and Yankee baseball, which is a pretty cool place to be in New York,” DiMarco said.
MSG Networks is just one piece of the bigger picture.
TBL has already announced eight new teams for season five, on top of Manny Pacquiao placing the ink on paper — officially signing with the league.
This is only the beginning with so much left in store.
