The Houston Hitmen finally did it, a win at last. After contests against the San Antonio Snipers, NYC Attitude, and Dallas Enforcers — it was a revenge match while taking on the Dallas Enforcers in week six that led to win number one of season four.
To kick off the new month, the Miami Assassins and the Atlanta Attack squared off once more for a rematch to begin week six. From the beginning, it was the Assassins who took control, especially after the big knockdown by Victor Abreu against Atlanta’s Rayray Robinson. Then, there were three more knockdowns throughout the night — all for Miami: Darrius Jackson, Yusmel Ruiz and Yosdiel Napoles found a way to earn extra points. Miami looked like too much throughout all 24 rounds for Atlanta, as the final score read 20-8.
Saturday, May 2, the NYC Attitude and the Philadelphia Smoke brought out a huge crowd for its rematch. NYC, the season three champions, fell to Smoke by a score of 19-14. Head coaches Ryan O’Leary for NYC and Bob Kane for Philly stood across from each other — watching their fighters swing and trade blow for blow in all 24 rounds. Just like in week one, it was the Philadelphia Smoke who were victors — Conja Nathan and Stacia Suttles’ knock outs were all a part of the 20-11 final score. Nathan in the eighth round defeated Michael Cserenyi, while Suttles in the 22 round had Katharina Lehner kneeling on the ground — both finishing by way of TKO.
Sunday, May 3, the Houston Hitmen and the Dallas Enforcers, unlike the week four matchup where Houston was trampled 24-9, were in a much tighter competition. So many split-decisions, and four new fighters making their Team Boxing League debut. Brian Caldwell’s new members were a big contribution, as the Hitmen won 14-13 after a thrilling round 24 that featured Dallas’ DaCarree Scott and Houston’s A’mire Lewis — both new to the league. There were constant exchanges through the three minutes between Scott and Lewis that ended in Lewis’ favor — giving Houston its first win of season four.
The Assassins and Smoke are tough to beat, and will see each other real soon on Sunday, May 17. For Houston, while achieving its first victory, still has plenty of work to do.
Until next time, that’s everything for this week’s scorecard.
