The Houston Hitmen and the San Antonio Snipers ended in a tie, while the Boston Butchers and LA Elite recorded their second victories of season four to make a jump in the overall TBL standings.
Houston and San Antonio came down to the last round of the night as Hitmen’s Chimka Deric and Snipers’ Adrian Taylor was the deciding bout that concluded in a 12-12 tie. This came after Houston built a 10-7 lead, yet that wasn’t enough for head coach Brian Caldwell’s team to cushion the blows that would eventually come their way. San Antonio managed to comeback and make the score, 12-11, following heavyweight Nagy Aguilera’s decision-victory over Carlos Frometa.
No matter who won between the Butchers and Smash were going to get a big boost in their placement within the standings. Both teams held a 1-2 record going into the fight, but it was Boston — with the help of Rashidi Ellis and newcomer Sage Rosario — who got the job done in Nashville. Boston’s efforts were too much as they defeated Smash, 17-10, in front of its home crowd. Rosario’s performance in round 11 — taking on Suzana Rodriguez Griffin — completed in a TKO — four huge points that gave Boston all the momentum they needed. Ellis used his high-motor and energetic style of fighting to outlast Nashville’s Isaiah Elrod in rounds seven and 20.
The Phoenix Fury and the LA Elite fought in front of a packed Thunder Studios in Long Beach, California on Sunday, May 24. Ahavat Gordon, undefeated in combat sports entering the contest, finished with two wins on the night — one unanimous decision in round five and a split-decision in round 23 while going up against Judah Yisrael. Despite Gordon’s huge debut, it was Phoenix who left the building with a 23-13 victory. Fury’s Manuel Villalobos (round 16) and Sebastian Salomon Duran (round 22) recorded two knockouts that stretched the gap on the scoreboard.
How about that for a week of TBL, fans?
Up next: Week 10.
