Joey Dawejko Talks Heavyweight Desires Ahead of TCL Return

Philadelphia, PA – Veteran heavyweight Joey Dawejko is set to make a significant impact in the Team Combat League (TCL) this Sunday as he looks to rebound from recent losses. The experienced fighter, with 16 knockouts from 28 professional bouts, is eager to turn things around at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, where he will face the formidable Patrick Mailata.

Dawejko, representing the Philadelphia Smoke, had an impressive start in the TCL, winning five consecutive fights before facing setbacks in his last two matches. As he prepares for this crucial bout, Dawejko is focused on making it to the TCL semi-finals later this month, with the added motivation of potentially returning to professional boxing in August.

In an exclusive interview with World Boxing News, Dawejko shared his excitement about fighting in front of his hometown fans. “I feel great heading into my fight this Sunday. I think this will be another great event at 2300 Arena in front of our hometown Philly fans,” Dawejko said. “It’s going to be the Smoke versus the Las Vegas Hustle, and I have a tough fight. But I’m confident in myself and my ability. I’m ready to go.”

Discussing his opponent, Dawejko commented, “Mailata is from the Hustle, and we know it’s a tough fight, but if we do our job this Sunday against the Hustle, we’ll make the Team Combat League Semi-finals on Saturday, July 27. We’ll be fighting back here at 2300 Arena. And if we win the Semi-finals, we’d make it to the MegaBrawl 2 championship on Thursday, August 1, in Commerce, CA.”

Looking ahead, Dawejko is scheduled to face Homero Fonseca at the Valley Forge Casino and Resort in Valley Forge, just two weeks after the TCL finals. A victory in this bout would mark Dawejko’s second consecutive professional win and could set the stage for a significant opportunity later in the year.

“I still want to fight big names. I took a little time to fight in Philly against local guys, and I’d love to get another big fight against another big name, but there’s nobody specific,” Dawejko shared.

As Dawejko continues his journey in the TCL, the prospect of a championship trophy at the end of the season provides a strong incentive. The TCL serves as an important platform for Dawejko to stay active and showcase his skills while aiming for a return to the big stage.
