The Philadelphia Smoke are still undefeated.
5-0, after beating the Miami Assassins in Chester, Pennsylvania by a score of 20-14. What a showdown that was, incredible boxing.
But sit tight, let’s talk about the first two fights first.
On Friday, May 15, the Dallas Enforcers and the San Antonio Snipers took some time before it became a competitive battle. At the end of round 15, the score stood at 10-apiece, but San Antonio’s Nagy Aguilera knocked out DeAndre Savage with a big right overhand punch. Savage fell backward and collapsed on the floor — highlight of the night. Much of Dallas’ score came from knock downs in three different rounds: two, 11 and 14. Despite Dallas’ effort to close the distance, it was the San Antonio Snipers who ultimately won by a score of 18-15. Monserat Carmona of Dallas came up short in securing two points for a tie in round 24.
Saturday, May 16, the Phoenix Fury and the NYC Attitude ended in a blowout win for Fury — giving Attitude its fourth loss of season four. The defending champions continue to struggle, and are running out of time to secure a playoff spot and go for another MegaBrawl championship. NYC started off strong with a 5-3 lead by the end of the launch rounds, including a knockdown by Ryan Zempoaltecatl. The big moment of the night came from Fury’s Darian Castro, who brutally knocked out Adonis Wilkins in round 18. After all 24 rounds, Fury won with ease, 21-9.
And now, for the main event of week eight.
Smoke and Assassins made up for an entertaining matchup of The Battle of the Undefeated. The contest started off with a bang — a first round knockout by Philadelphia’s Lisandra Contreras against Jannat Rafeeq — huge four points and a morale booster for Bob Kane’s team. Then, from round four through round 10, Miami went on to win seven straight rounds, featuring a knockdown by Samantha Ginithan while fighting Maria Antunez in round nine. Smoke’s Stacia Suttles had a knockout in round 11, Steve Cunningham Sr., Isaiah Johnson, Shakilya Ellis earned knock downs during middle and money rounds. Philadelphia won, 20-14, giving Miami its first loss and sitting at the top as the best team in Team Boxing League.
Week eight was insane. Knockouts on top of knockouts. San Antonio and Las Vegas are winners, and the Philadelphia Smoke stand at the top as the lone undefeated team heading into week nine.
Can Smoke extend its streak to six? We’ll have to see.
That’s a wrap.
